NEW FINISH LINES FOR 2022

We’re just 3 weeks away from race day and the weather is slowly turning for the better! As the race approaches, we want to keep y’all updated. The deadline for registration, transfers and edits is on Friday March 11th at 5pm EST. You’ll have until then to sign up, sell/transfer your entry or make changes to your registration (wave, category, distance, etc…). The 36- and 18-mile events are SOLD OUT and we will be prioritizing distance changes for current registered riders over the wait lists. There are still spots left in the 62- and 100-mile races! Once the deadline passes and registration is officially closed there will be no more changes whatsoever. We need those crucial days to download all of the data, comb through it for errors, format it for the timing company, code number plates, etc… The first packet pickup at Founders Brewing Co. is on Tuesday March 22nd so that only gives us 10 days to handle this massive amount of work. Please respect this deadline and do not make requests after 3/11 at 5pm as we don’t like telling people no

The week after registration closes, we will be publishing ALL the critical information y’all need for the race such as bib numbers, start waves and times, etc… We typically have the 2022 Race Information document sent out at least 1 week prior to race day with everything you need to be successful! This information will be emailed out via BikeReg to all registered participants, and we will make social media posts to remind everyone once it is available. The document will also be posted to our website under “Details” then “Maps and Files”. Currently you can still view the 2021 file and see how detailed it is!

Speaking of Maps and Files… We have some important changes to the Finish lines of the courses this year. The start line for all distances will remain in front of Green Street United Methodist Church as per prior years, but all the finish lines will be adjusted. For the 18- and 36-mile distances the finish line will be the same as the start line (located in front of Green Street United Methodist Church on Green St.). This will eliminate the left-hand turn onto Church St. and the short downhill sprint. What this will do is allow riders to have a straight shot down Green Street and a highly visible finish line with a slight uphill sprint. We will place signage at 800, 400 and 200 meters to go so you will know how far out you are. This change is for SAFETY which is our number one priority. Riders will be able to spot the large red inflatable finish arch from a long way out. We will still have the whole chute fenced off all the way to the after party so that riders can have a safe deceleration zone after the finish line. Now onto the 62- and 100-mile finish…

We have an exciting “mountain top” finish in store for the 62- and 100-mile racers! This change is once again for SAFETY and to make sure EVERYONE has an enjoyable experience at the Barry-Roubaix. The 62- and 100-mile riders will no longer merge with 18- and 36-mile traffic 5 miles from the finish. Instead, the 62- and 100-mile routes will have their own unique course for the final miles to a remote finish line on Broadway St. As the event has grown to 4,000+ riders we have had to continually evaluate course interactions and SAFETY. Now the 18- and 36-mile riders can enjoy their final 5 miles without concern of the 62- or 100-mile packs approaching at high speeds. This also means that the fast 62- and 100-mile packs will have a clear run into their finish line without trying to pass slower riders enjoying the course. It is a win-win for all riders whether chill pace or winning pace! This does mean that both the 62- and 100-mile routes will be a few miles shorter, but we think the trade-off is well worth the safer finish setup. We’ll investigate adding some more miles and climbs back for 2023 (insert diabolical laugh here). The finishing climb is approx. 0.25 miles and gains 85 feet with an average grade of 6%. The finish will be located at the top of the climb and will make for an exciting uphill sprint. As with the 18- and 36-mile finish we will have signage indicating 800, 400 and 200 meters to go. After crossing the finish line, 62- and 100-mile riders will have a 1-mile downhill roll into town to recover for the after party!

You’re probably itching to see what these courses and finish lines look like eh? We’ve got the GPX files, Strava links and course map already updated for your viewing pleasure. You can find them here:
