High of 81°, winds at 15 MPH, we all were treated to a beautiful and unseasonably warm day in April
4579 registered racers / 3695 finished
Geno Villafano (4:53:06 M), Erin Omara (5:37:58 W), and Sam Hansen (7:31:36 NB) took top honors in the Psycho Killer 100-mile race from a field of almost 300 competitors.
In the 62-mile Killer, Christopher Prendergast finished in 2:50:54 to win in the Men’s Division, with Maria Döring the first woman to cross the finish line at 3:17:59. Speedy Sloth wins the Non-Binary Division with a time of 5:35:32.
Soloing in for the 36-mile Thriller win was Patrick Collins (1:39:22 M), Katie Spoelman-Vanacker (1:49:48 W) takes the top step for the women, and Laura Baumgrass-Pierce (2:35:32 NB) wins in the non-binary division from a huge field of almost 2000 riders.
Teenager gravel racers Katja Opfer (0:57:33 W) and James Meyer (0:49:25 M) won the 18-mile Chiller sprint race.
2022 - RETURN TO MICHIGAN SPRING!
High of 35°, winds at 21 MPH, cold and wintry mix welcome back to Spring in Michigan

Michigan welcomed back the racers to a cold and wintry mix! Thousands of other racers persevered in the cold conditions and competed in the 18-mile, 36-mile, 62-mile and 100-miler. It was so great to see so many familiar as well as new faces racing!
In the 100 mile race Jordan Wakely crossed the finish line in 5 hours 40 minutes and 11 seconds beating last year’s winner Connor Kamm (Q+M Racing) by 19 seconds, Jason Lowetz (Bearclaw) came in third with a time of 5:45:45. Cynthia Frazier (Velocio) won in the women’s race with a time of 6:55:26. Jill Martindale (Salsa) came in 2nd at 7:33:45 followed by Claudia Ferreira with a time of 7:39:13. For the new non-binary category Ee Durbin won with a time of 7:14:17, followed by Marcelino Rosales 7:46:43 and Samuel Hansen in third with a time of 9:27:42. Congratulations to all!
In the signature 62-mile race the new finish line saw racers push themselves hard for the mountain-top finish! Canadian Adam Roberge (Jukebox Cycling) eked out the win with a time of 2:41:18 over John Borstelmann (Abus Pro Gravel 2nd) and Alexey Vermeulen (Jukebox Cycling 3rd) who threw their bikes over the line seconds later at 2:41:21 in a tight battle for second place. In the women’s field Paige Peters (Abus Pro Gravel) won decisively with a time of 2:55:29. Austin Killips (Pratt Racing) came in 2nd at 3:00:15 and Andrea Cyr (Butcherbox Cycling) rounded off the podium with a time of 3:02:55
2021 - THE FALL EDITION
High of 75°, beautiful fall day for possibly the only-October Barry-Roubaix
3200 registered racers / 2382 started / 2257 finished
After two-and-a half years of waiting, Barry-Roubaix returned and treated racers to a beautiful fall day. Records were smashed and in a very unusual situation, there was a tie for the win in the 62-mile race men’s division. Texas pro rider Hugo Scala Jr. (Gateway Devo Cycling Team) and former World Tour pro Alexey Vermeulen tied to win with a time of 2:32:39, smashing the record by over ten minutes. Spencer Seggebruch (Abus) edged the rest of the field to claim 3rd. Utah native Lindsey Stevenson (Abus Pro Gravel Team), was the first woman in 2:51:33. Paige Boldt (Twenty24) just a second behind Lindsey and Kae Takeshita (Abus) not far behind to round out the podium. Lindsey’s time is also a new course record for the women, besting the previous record by 7 minutes.
In the 100 mile race Connor Kamm (3T Q+M) crossed the finish line in 5 hours 9 minutes and 39 seconds later to win by over 3 minutes. Danielle Larson from Arkansas won the Women’s race in 6:03:08.
Thousands of other racers competed in the 18-mile, 36-mile, 62-mile and 100-miler. It was so great to see so many familiar as well as new faces racing! A fall Barry-Roubaix we’ll not soon forget!

2019 - THE SOLD-OUT WINDY AS HECK YEAR.

Thank you to all who raced and made our first year of reaching our racer cap of 3500 riders a huge success. So happy the race was on Saturday, though super windy at times, we sure were glad it wasn’t the slushy snow we experienced on Sunday. We had some close finishes in the 62-mile race. In the Women’s race, Kae Takeshita edged out Emma Swartz to get the win with a time of 3:10:41 . In the men’s race Mat Stephens gets his third win just milliseconds ahead of Thomas Humphreys with a time of 2:44:04 .
In the Psycho-Killer 100 mile race Michael Simonson defends his win with a time of 5:11:39 and Christine Thornburg takes it for the women in 6:14:16 . Full results for all distances below.

2018 - The tenth anniversary and introduction of the 100 mile Psycho Killer.
High of 59°, conditions were dry and fast

The Men's 62 mile Killer race winner was 2017 winner Mat Stephens (Team Panaracer/Stan’s NoTubes), finishing 11 minutes faster than the previous year. The time is a new course record.
Race winner Rachel Langdon (Team Gray Goat Mobile) also won in 2016. Finishing in 2:59:57, Langdon set a new course record, bettering Mackenzie Woodring’s 2013 record by seven minutes.
Jeff Jacobi, a Grand Rapids, Michigan cyclist, completed the 36 mile Thriller gravel race on a penny-farthing vintage high wheeler bike, raising over $10,000 (USD) for the charity Gilda’s Club.

2017 - The cold rainy year

Held March 25, 2017, the 9th edition of Barry-Roubaix was one of eight events in the Michigan Gravel Race Series, a points series that debuted in 2017.
The male winner of the 62 mile 'Killer' race was Mat Stephens, who edged out Mac Brennen and Ansel Dickey in a sprint for the finish line. The female winner of the 62 mile race was Lily Williams.

2016 - the HOT DUSTY AND F$&K CANCER SCOOTER YEAR

The 2016 Barry-Roubaix was pushed back until April 16, 2016 to avoid a conflict with Easter. The later starting date presented riders with a new and virtually unheard of challenge for this race, heat. The average temperature for the 62 mile race was 70F which was a full 41 degrees warmer than the average temperature from previous year. Dry and dusty course conditions made for a fast race which took on the character of a road race with large pelotons staying together until the finish.

2015 - SUPER COLD AND FAST and a guy on a BMX BIKE

In both the men's and women's 62 mile Open Category races, early breakaways defined the outcome of the day. 2008 Summer Paralympics Gold medalist Mackenzie Woodring took the 2015 Barry-Roubaix Women's Open trophy with a finish time more than five minutes faster than runner-up Crystal Anthony. This win marked Woodring's fourth Barry-Roubaix victory in seven attempts.

2013 - FIRST YEAR STARTING IN DOWNTOWN HASTINGS

The new start/finish area was well received by the City, local residents and racers. Registration increased by almost three-fold, to 2914 registered participants. An unexpected snowstorm created unusually harsh conditions, and the race course was altered at the last minute to avoid the treacherous Sager Road two-track section.

In 2012, Barry-Roubaix: Killer Gravel Road Race served as the second of five events in the American UltraCx Championship Series (stages ranging from 80 to 115 km).

2011 - FOUNDERS BREWING BECOMES TITLE SPONSOR!

1046 racers registered for the 2011 edition of the Barry-Roubaix and 950 of them made it to the start line. The fact that we only lost 10% of the pre-registered riders proves just how hardcore cyclists are and how much we love what we do. The couch potatoes must be thinking who the hell would ride a bike in temperatures below freezing and then toss in a wind chill from a cyclist moving 15-20 miles per hour. Thats about 10 degrees above zero! Thankfully it was sunny and the winds were pretty light.

2010 - FIRST TIME AT YANKEE SPRINGS / GUN LAKE UNIT

Racers were treated to sunny skies but the morning lows were in the 20’s and by race start the temps only crept to 34 degrees with a 15 mph biting wind out of the southeast. We didn’t see 50 degrees until 3:00 pm.
The new start venue at Yankee Spring/Gun Lake Unit was a great place to stage a race and has room for growth. Speaking of growth, we had an increase in attendance by over 250%. Nearly 700 racers toed the start line! Derek Graham captured the mens Elite race and Mackenzie Woodring lead a blistering pace in the womens Elite class to defend her 2009 title.

2009 - THE FIRST ANNUAL BARRY-ROUBAIX!!!

Racers were treated to perfect conditions; cool and sunny weather prevailed and the roads were a perfect combo of moisture and traction.
Michael Simonson and Mackenzie Woodring lead a blistering pace in the mens and womens Elite categories to capture the first ever BRX Elite titles while the racing action in the Expert/Sport category was just as hot. The category of the day had to be the 19 mile Beginner class as these guys and gals really showed us all what a great sport cycling is. Many riders dusted off old bikes hanging in the garage and participated in their first bike race ever or their first race in 10-15 years! Awesome to see the determination.
After the racing came to a close everyone enjoyed fresh Zoup chili and Founders Ale while the awards were announced at the Historic Long Lake Outdoor Center, complete with a roaring fire in the fieldstone fireplace.
